Alex Dean, President and CEO of The Alexander Group

He attended Punahou School and the University of Hawaii, before graduating from Boston University with a B.A., in interdisciplinary studies, a selfdesigned curriculum in architecture, solar energy, business, and environmental law and business management.

His first summer job working for a builder and stone mason, building houses above the Kaiser Estate in Hawaii Kai, eventually led to a career in the design/build industry that now spans four decades.

In the 1980s, Alex worked as an associate for a professional mechanical engineer in Maryland, analyzing HVAC and special mechanical systems, and conducted energy analyses for The National Zoo, private office buildings and military intelligence facilities worldwide.

In 1982 Alex opened his own renovation and remodeling business which specialized in both residential and commercial construction, with an eye toward building energy-efficient dwellings, long before the current “green” movement. Since its incorporation in 1986 in Maryland, and 2007 in Hawaii, The Alexander Group has completed over 800 projects.

Alex Dean is an active member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. He holds the National Association of Home Builders’ 1 Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) and Certified Green Professional (CGP) designations. From the National Association of the Remodeling Industry he holds the Green Certified Professional (GCP) designation. Finally, he was one of the first builders nationwide to earn the US Green Building Council's LEED AP Homes certification. He has designed and built two LEED certified projects.
